Summary: Reimagine Co’s vision is a world where humans live in peace and harmony with each other and with nature. Our mission is to help Londoners to live more sustainable and connected lives, through workshops, demonstrations, experiments and shared learning. Reimagine’s core activity is hosting and facilitating workshops on the subject of zero waste, climate change and other environmental issues. As well as free public events at our demonstration space in downtown London, Reimagine Co also offers tailored workshops for schools, college and university students, local businesses and not-for-profits. Reimagine Co raises awareness of environmental issues and stimulates conversation through an active social media presence and participation in community festivals and events, consults with organizations and event planners to support them with waste reduction, and hosts events and campaigns to encourage more sustainable lifestyles. Reimagine Co is looking for a candidate with extensive experience with project management, coordinating events and managing communications. The candidate will be responsible for planning every aspect of our environmental events and must be well-organized and have strong attention to detail. The Environmental Projects Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating 20-25 events per year including workshops, networking events, promotional displays and full day forums in London, Ontario. Typically, there will be 2-3 events per month, with approximately half of the events taking place on evenings and/or weekends. This position is also responsible for planning Wastefest, a one-day zero waste conference and festival that will take place in June 2020. In addition to event responsibilities, the Coordinator will also be responsible for developing educational materials and reference manuals; and assisting with community engagement and communications on various platforms. Duties include (but are not limited to): Ongoing Environmental Project Logistics (40%) Organizing the educational program for the annual series of workshops, forums and conferences Organizing and planning events, delegating planning details to volunteers and summer staff as necessary Developing curricula, workshop formats and educational materials for schools, businesses and different segments of the general public Project status reports to the team and supervisor Local promotion (at events and online in advance) Booking and organizing venues and speakers Managing the planning of the event layout and set up, managing payments of budgets of events, reviewing and recommendations regarding contracts Project management of all aspects of events (organizing, setting up, running the event and debrief of event) Recruiting and managing volunteers Assisting in developing funding requests for projects Wastefest Event Management (30%) Lead organizer for Wastefest 2020: a zero waste conference and festival taking place at the Central Library and on Dundas Place Coordinate meetings and monitor activities by Wastefest partners including TREA and the City of London Support securing event sponsors and managing budgets Managing exhibitor registration, booth layout, recruiting new vendors Managing event day logistics, setup and take down logistics Supporting communications and promotion in advance of event through social media, PR, newsletters and direct outreach Coordinate educational component of event including; booking workshop speakers, coordinating workshop schedules and interactive activities. Communications (20%) Posting weekly on Reimagine Co’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram platform Providing information and responding to queries from event attendees, volunteers and partners Developing internal process documents and reference manuals Curating monthly e-newsletters for Reimagine Co followers Other (10%) Creating and monitoring reports, surveys and evaluations for events and communications Generating an annual report with key findings, learnings and metrics for Reimagine Co events Our Culture We have an open and laid back culture. Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have experience in fundraising, event planning, communications, sponsorships, project management, a strong passion for sustainability and contributing to a healthy community. At least three years’ related work experience in a public- or client-facing role would be an asset. Degree or diploma in environmental science, event planning, public relations, project management, communications, marketing, or other relevant field is an asset. The successful candidate will have the following qualifications, traits and abilities: Leadership Skills: the ability to plan, strategize, set goals, develop work plans, work efficiently and track progress; strong ability to work independently; ability to multi-task and assist with multiple projects and initiatives; initiative to explore new ideas and create new opportunities; ability to make decisions and resolve problems. Communication Skills: excellent communication skills (oral and written); ability to deliver presentations; experience facilitating group discussions; ability to engage with audiences of all ages; knowledge of effective communication tools and strategies to engage the public. Event Planning Skills: The ideal candidate will have experience planning events - big and small. Environmental Knowledge: Current knowledge of key environmental issues. Experience reducing personal waste. Continued interest in learning and expanding knowledge through professional development opportunities and personal initiative. Adaptability: Demonstrate a willingness to be flexible, versatile and adapt to a changing work environment while maintaining effectiveness and efficiency. Ability to learn new technologies and master new skills. Able to handle stress and multi-task. Technical Skills: excellent computer skills (Word, GSuite and Google Drive, Excel, Powerpoint, Social Media). Video editing, Website development, ability to update website content, and graphic design are an asset. Transportation: Must have the ability to pick up supplies periodically and to travel to and from events - access to an automobile or other vehicle that can fit event equipment required. Contract terms: This is a full-time contract position at Reimagine Co. All planning and logistics will be completed using a combination of email, phone calls and in-person meetings, so flexibility in schedule will be necessary. Some evening and weekend availability is also required. Compensation: $20/hr for 35 hours/week for a 12 month contract (Start date January 2019).
