The Opportunity The Accounting Assistant is primarily responsible for assisting with general accounting duties including accounts payable and period end reconciliations. Additional responsibilities include assisting with recording of campaign information, troubleshooting IT issues, and ensuring data integrity of the database. Primary Responsibilities: Maintain accounts payable records by ensuing proper authorization and coding, entering invoices, preparing cheques, ensuring cheques are double signed and distributed Assist with month end/year end journals, bank reconciliations and other month end processing Record gifts, pledges, and payments in donor database Set up donor accounts where necessary, record revenue and designations Prepare bank deposits, reconcile to database and deposit at bank Process instalment payments as required Work with external auditors Assist with receipting, donor inquiries and other related tasks Provide support to the Director, Finance & Operations Primary contact for IT internal support and service providers Cross train on other accounting functions to fill in during absences; provide reception and general office support as required Act as Lottery liaison to assist organizations on acquiring lottery licence and following up with them to ensure required paper work is filed after event May be required to assist with special events, donor activities, Perform other duties as needed to ensure the safe and effective operations of the organization Our Ideal Candidate Will Possess: Minimum of one year related experience Post-secondary credentials in accounting or bookkeeping, or a comparable combination of education and experience Proficiency in computer management skills including basic troubleshooting, installing and updating programs, setting up users, monitoring error messages, swapping out systems, etc. Proven experience in finance and accounting, with an emphasis on accounts payable High attention to accuracy and attention to detail Proficient with accounting software and Microsoft Office; advanced skills in Excel; database management skills an asset Proven ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive materials and issues Exceptionally organized and efficient; great attention to detail Experience handling heavy workloads and meeting deadlines in a fast paced environment Flexible, tactful, diplomatic with sound judgement; exceptional, verbal, communication and interpersonal skills Knowledge and experience in fundraising and non-profit sector an asset Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with all stakeholders in a fast paced environment Ability to occasionally flex work schedule to attend meetings and special events which occur before or after regular office hours Candidates are encouraged to submit their cover letter and resume by Tuesday, September 18 to Lisa Simmons, Executive Assistant and Human Resources Officer: United Way Elgin Middlesex 409 King St, London, ON N6B 1S5 Email: email@example.com Thank you for your interest in joining United Way’s team; please note that only those being considered for interviews will be contacted.
