Job Description

Old East Village BIA Bookkeeper and Administrative Assistant

Old East Village Business Improvement Mandate: Create a vibrant, diverse, and sustainable commercial corridor, at the heart of an inclusive community, where more people live, work, shop, play and produce.

Job duties may include but not limited to the following:
  • Maintain and manage full set of financial records including funding receivables, payables, disbursements, payroll and banking.
  • Budget preparation, analysis and monitoring.
  • Prepare bank reconciliation statements
  • Reconciliation & preparation of government remittances
  • Month end reporting including HST rebate calculations.
  • Financial reporting including year-end T4’s.
  • Preparation of  year end working papers and liaising with auditors
  • Manage tangible capital asset inventory and calculate fixed asset depreciation.
  • Budget preparation, analysis and monitoring.
  • Prepare BIA Levy budgets & monitor funds.
  • Cheque preparation
  • Financial review of contracts
  • Correspondence
  • Database updating
  • File management
  • General Administrative Duties
  • Light IT support
Qualifications and Experience
Post-secondary education in an Accounting field and/or a minimum of 3 years’ experience working in an accounting/bookkeeping role using Simply Accounting.
  • Experience with Not-for-profit accounting is beneficial.
  • Must have experience working with budgets- preparation, maintaining and analysis
  • Must have experience with reconciliation and preparation of government remittances (Payroll and HST)
  • Extensive knowledge of Simply Accounting and Excel
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Outlook
  • Ability to work in a non-judgmental manner.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and within time lines.
  • Must have strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Must be very detailed oriented.
  • Must have patience and flexibility.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
This is a part time position of approximately 20 hours per week.  Light lifting and occasional overtime hours in the evenings and on weekends may be required.
