Job Description

At the Women’s Rural Resource Centre of Strathroy and Area (WRRC), we are leaders of the women’s movement in our local community: deepening understanding, fostering connection and casting vision for a world governed by principals of peace and not patriarchy.  We use a feminist lens and anti-oppressive framework to deliver prevention, education and crisis response to women and their families who have been impacted by violence and abuse in rural Middlesex. This includes a 24 hour helpline and emergency shelter, risk assessment and safety planning, advocacy, system navigation, counselling, groups and programming, a community garden and food cupboard, as well as leading community development and collaboration.  We have a bold vision to expand our agency through innovative partnerships while responding to emergent needs by experimenting, evolving and recreating ourselves to best serve the community we share. 
WRRC is seeking a strong woman-centred Transition Support candidate.
Summary: Working 35 hours per week for 8 weeks, this role will support the transition and community program. As this position is funded by Canada Summer Jobs, applicants must:
  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment*; and,
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
Reporting Relationship: This position reports to Program Manager.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Complete program intake sessions and strengths-based assessments for  women seeking WRRC community programs
  • Provide internal and external linkages and agency referrals as appropriate
  • Participate in service coordination and community development to facilitate service planning and delivery
  • Maintain current knowledge of social services available throughout community
  • Collaborate and coordinate services and resources with women, social supports and community agencies
  • Assist with recruiting and screening of possible housing applicants
  • Seek out and develop relationships to facilitate housing opportunities for vulnerable and marginalized women
  • Provide on-going support to the Program team
Job Specifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Superior communication, listening and customer service skills
  • Demonstrated organizational and multi-tasking skills. Good working knowledge of computer office technology and applications
  • Clear current Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
Hours of Work: 35 hours per week for 8 weeks. This position may require variable day, evening, night and/or weekend hours.

Physical Requirements:
This position will require providing on-going emotional support and advocacy to women, youth, and children who have experienced woman abuse in a secured shelter setting. 
Ability to lift 25 lbs.
