Job Description

Established in 1973, Vanderwesten & Rutherford Associates Inc. (V&R) provides mechanical and electrical engineering consulting services to a variety of facilities including institutional, healthcare, secondary and post-secondary, industrial, municipal and recreational facilities. With offices in London, and Ottawa, V&R is strategically located to service all of the Ontario market.
 
V&R is currently looking for a part-time accounting assistant to join our team of enthusiastic and dedicated professionals. The qualified candidate will have strong quantitative and interpersonal skills, as well as proficiency in accounting functions and software programs. We're looking for a team player with a keen interest in building successful relationships with clients. Since our business environment is always changing, a willingness to learn and the ability to adapt are essential. A bachelor's degree, accounting diploma, or equivalent is preferred, but students currently enrolled in an accounting program are also welcome to apply.
 
Responsibilities:

-Manage day-to-day accounting operations, coordinating and updating management on a weekly basis
-Create new internal accounting corporate policies and maintain existing policies
-Develop monthly and quarterly accounting reports for the management and executive teams
-Work with corporate accounting firm to prepare year-end closeout and accounting schedules
-Ensure accounting department has up to date collection data and entering of accounts receivable, accounts payable and general journal entries is done in a timely manner.
-Maintain accounting controls by establishing a chart of accounts; defining accounting policies and procedures.
-Guide other departments by researching and interpreting accounting policy; applying observations and recommendations to operational issues.
-Maintain financial security by establishing internal controls.
-Protect organization's value by keeping information confidential.
-Monitor employee expenses, Time Sheets, Credit Card expenses
-Handle and reconcile Petty Cash
-Prepare and send out statement of accounts, invoices, including reconciling WIP
-Transfer information from new projects into accounting software
-Track and update Accounts receivable report daily, and oversee collections
-Verify and reconcile General Ledger for month end
-Process and send cheques out

Skills/Qualifications:
-Experience overseeing bookkeeping functions
-Experience in monthly financial reporting to owners and senior management
-Strong budgeting, financial forecasting and financial analysis skills required
-Experience with Accounting Software (knowledge of Clearview software an asset)
-Meticulous attention to detail
-Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
