Job Description

Reimagine Co is looking for an entrepreneurial Store Manager with extensive retail experience, who has a knack for effective marketing and enjoys handling day-to-day operations and managing a team. You do not need to be a zero waste expert, but you must be passionate about the environment, about community, and about making a difference in the world.

You will be the first point of contact for people coming into the store; you will talk about our company, our products and our mission; you will take care of the space and the people who come into it. Make no mistake, this is a fun job! But we work hard, too. In this role, you need to take responsibility, work independently, show attention to detail, take initiative, and be creative, innovative, compassionate and caring.

We are looking for a hard worker who is hungry to co-create conscious change, someone who is not afraid to challenge convention - and to challenge us.

This is a contract position until the end of the year. We have every intention of making the post permanent if you can demonstrate the ability to grow our business with us and make it financially sustainable.


About Reimagine Co

Reimagine Co’s vision is a world where humans live in peace and harmony with each other and with nature. In order to contribute to this vision, our mission is to help Londoners to live more sustainable and connected lives, through workshops, demonstrations, experiments and shared learning. A key part of our work is managing a zero waste retail store which is part of the Reimagine Co zero waste demonstration space located at 211 King St (the old Novack’s building) in the heart of downtown London, Ontario.


Why we are recruiting a Store Manager now

Reimagine Co was started by a husband and wife team, Heenal and Kara, with a passion for zero waste, a belief in the impossible, and a ton of elbow grease - but no retail experience. 

Frustrated by the lack of options in the city when we started our zero waste journey, we wanted to make these items available locally so Londoners didn’t need to buy their straws, produce bags and menstrual products online, like we had to. What started as a small space with 75 items, has grown into a thriving brick and mortar store and online business that now sells over 300 products. 

Where Reimagine Co is today is a testament to what our awesome staff and volunteers have put in, and to the community that has embraced our vision.

However, without retail experience, we feel we have plateaued with where we can take our zero waste store. At the same time, there are some other exciting projects in the zero waste field that we would like to put our time and energy into, and we would love to be able to dive into those knowing that the retail side of things is taken care of. We envision a union of our love and dreams for the store with the experience and drive of a manager to co-create a sustainable, conscious business.

Reimagine Co started as a pop-up store with a timeframe of 3 months, which was soon extended to 6 months - and now it feels like we are here to stay! We want to give Reimagine the best foundation possible to continue its work for years to come, helping more people.
 

Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Ensure that the shop is open, staffed, clean and beautiful, and fulfil shop assistant duties as well as managerial duties when required

  2. Check and maintain inventory levels, oversee shrinkage, and check outgoing deliveries

  3. Create a fun and inviting atmosphere for customers and find creative ways to enhance the customer experience and activate our community

  4. Manage a team of staff and volunteers, supporting with recruitment, on-boarding, retention, and renewal processes

  5. Maintain an encyclopaedic knowledge of our products, suppliers, programs and customers

  6. Identify customer needs, market trends and opportunities, in order to create and implement innovative marketing campaigns to position the store as a destination spot and expand our reach beyond our existing customer base

  7. Develop suggestions for new products, promotions and partnerships

  8. Think outside the box

  9. Reply to messages, comments and emails

  10. Occasionally organize and support evening and weekend events, with the possibility to get involved in related projects with Reimagine Co as opportunities arise

 

Your knowledge, skills, and abilities

  1. Retail management experience

  2. Entrepreneurial minded self-starter with lots of drive and a desire to take ownership in the success of the store

  3. Natural sales ability, charismatic, people-oriented with the ability to foster strong relationships with customers, staff, partners and community

  4. Creative and resourceful with strong problem-solving abilities

  5. Communicates quickly and accepts feedback

  6. Detail-oriented and highly organized

  7. Ability to multi-task and coordinate ongoing projects, plans and people

  8. Confident using social media and interested in its potential for reaching new and existing audiences

  9. Someone who is familiar with the community and has local connections would be an asset

Contract details

  • Full-time contract position until December 31, 2019, with the goal of making the position permanent based on performance

  • Start date: immediately

  • Compensation commensurate with experience

  • May require occasional evening and weekend work.

  • Based primarily at Reimagine Co (211 King Street), with some work from home and at other locations
