Pathways Skill Development & Placement Centre assists individuals to overcome multiple challenges to meaningful employment by providing employability assessments, job search strategies, skills training and employment placement services.

 

 

Employment Counsellor / Facilitator




Position Summary:

Reporting to the Employment Service Team Leader, the Employment Counsellor/Facilitator works with our clients in group, classroom and individual settings to assist them in identifying barriers, developing strategies, gaining life and job search skills, and enhancing employability.  The counsellor serves as case manager, advocate and workshop facilitator, and is also responsible for maintaining updated and accurate client notes.

You have a university degree or post-secondary diploma and experience facilitating in front of groups utilizing your strong adult education skills.  You have honed your writing and oral communication skills and connect quickly and easily with people.  You are bright, enthusiastic, self-aware and self-motivated.  You have a good understanding of job search strategies, the London labour market information, resume creation and networking.  You have a great sense of humour and the ability to maintain calm and composure in all situations.  You have a strong desire to assist others without taking ownership of their situations.  You are known for your openness and non-judgemental approach as well as for your gracious directness and good problem solving skills.


This is what you will do.
 
  • Facilitate a variety of employee enhancement and job search workshops in both group and individual settings
  • Work individually with clients to assess, identify barriers and opportunities, and assist them in creating a realistic action plan
  • Manage client cases through their interaction with the agency, conducting follow up and inputting case notes
  • Advocate for clients with respect to Ontario Works, bring clear understanding of legislation to client situations
  • Work effectively with all organization departments, providing support and coverage as necessary
  • Assist clients in the creation of resumes and cover letters
  • Conduct mock interviews with clients as part of interview preparation
  • Do follow up calls and letters to maintain client contact and update client notes
  • Provide information of appropriate resources to clients as needed
