Seeking Digital Services Squad – IT Consultant    

Summary

London’s Business Improvement Areas (Argyle BIA, Hamilton Road BIA, Hyde Park BIA, Old East Village BIA, and Downtown London BIA) are working collaboratively to present to London BIA businesses exciting opportunities to participate with the London Digital Main Street Program, at no cost to them. Funded by the provincial government, we are accepting resumes to implement a Digital Service Squad designed to provide assessments, consulting, and advice to small business members on how they can adopt digital technologies to help them promote, sell and manage their businesses more effectively.

London Digital Main Street is currently seeking outgoing, enthusiastic, qualified candidates for the position of Digital Service Squad – IT Consultant. The Digital Service Squad is assigned to specific Business Improvement Areas (BIAs) in London and will be required to travel independently across London.

The focus of the role is to work one-on-one with main street businesses and provide the following services:


1. On-boarding Assistance
  • Conduct pre-visit research to best understand the BIA/neighbourhood and businesses.
  • Working with the BIA Coordinator to set-appointments or go door-to-door to onboard main street businesses to the Digital Main Street platform.
  • Assist businesses with on-boarding survey and training videos as outlined on Digital Main Street website.
  • Use appreciative inquiry methods to best understand their business goals and how digital tools/technology can assist them in meeting their goals.

2. Advisory Services
  • Once the business has been on-boarded to the Digital Main Street platform, the IT Consultant will walk through the Digital Assessment and Recommendations with the business owner.
  • The IT Consultant will assist the business owner in identifying their first priorities and the first digital tools/technology they want to activate.
  • The IT Consultant will also review vendor recommendations made through the platform and lead the business owner to relevant deals/discounts on the platform.

3. Activation/Implementation Services
  • The IT Consultant will advise other Digital Service Squad members to implement digital tools and technologies that businesses want to use (i.e.: Building a Shopify store, activating social media accounts, etc.).
  • The IT Consultant will outline hardware and software recommendations catered to each individual small business.
  • The IT Consultant may also provide some resources (articles, links, how-to guides) available through secondary sources that can help the business owner learn more about a particular tool that has been activated, or subject matter of interest.

. Reporting and Feedback
  • The IT Consultant must complete their field notes and report on a weekly basis to the Digital Main Street Program Coordinator and other Digital Service Squad Team Members.
  • The IT Consultant must attend Team Meetings as set out by the Program Coordinator.
  • Digital Service Squad Team Members are expected to maintain rapport with other members as to ensure consistency with branding and marketing strategies.


QUALIFIED APPLICANTS WILL:
 
  • Possess strong understanding IT business solutions such as: Microsoft OS, Adobe Suite, Microsoft Office, networking, unified communications, Sharepoint sites, printers, anti-virus software, etc.
  • Visit businesses and complete online digital assessments via Digital Main Street website to identify business needs and gaps.
  • Assist businesses in completing training exercises to qualify for Digital Transformation Grant.
  • Advise business owners which in-house hardware will benefit their online presence such as: laptops, cameras network servers, etc.
  • Advise business owners which in-house software will benefit their online presence such as: Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite, etc.
  • Provide ongoing direction and communication to other Digital Service Squad members on how they can support individual businesses.
  • Possess exceptional communications skills (written and verbal), strong relationship-building skills, as well as excellent time management skills.
  • Be able to travel and work independently in various BIAs in London.
  • Basic understanding of HTML, CSS, and Java Script considered an asset.
  • Previous experience with online and offline marketing is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience working with small businesses in BIAs is considered an asset.

This is a contract position with hourly rate to be negotiated.
