Columbia Sportswear Canada LP is seeking a Senior Payroll Specialist to join our team for a 12-month contract.

The Senior Payroll Specialist will coordinate and perform all payroll related functions for the Company.  They will act as the main contact for all payroll related questions. 

The successful candidate will administer Columbia’s multi-province payroll for 400+ employees using an outside vendor (ADP) for payroll processing.  They will submit bi-weekly payroll, review results to confirm accuracy of information, and respond to all payroll questions and issues.  They are accountable for accurately submitting all payrolls, distribution of paystubs according to Company site and distribution methods, preparing manual cheques, and running special payrolls to meet company needs.

The incumbent will coordinate and input all payroll data from various Columbia sites, i.e. time card data, pay changes, direct deposits, benefit deductions, KRONOS and Workday uploads.  They will review information for accuracy and resolve issues related to pay and absence/overtime reporting.

This position is responsible for the reconciliation and balancing of group company pension, RRSP and TFSA reports every payroll and ensuring funding to providers is accurate and timely.  They will coordinate with provinces to set up new Workers Compensation, Employer Health Tax, and other provincial employment coverage for workers.  In addition, they must keep up to date on legislation and regulation changes that effect the payroll process and maintain a sound knowledge base of resource information for multi-province payroll processing. 

The successful candidate will act as the main contact for questions related to payroll.  They will provide the Accounting Department with monthly reports on payroll charges and tax withholding, communicate to the Accounting Department any changes in payroll that will affect General Ledger, and act as liaison between the Accounting Department and ADP to ensure accurate G/L, as well as other various reports.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for additional monthly, quarterly and yearly functions.  Some of these include garnishment cheque requests; WSIB administration, management and reconciliation; preparation of records of employment; T4 distribution; Statistics Canada monthly and quarterly payroll reports; calculations for provincial premiums and request payments; year to date payroll adjustments; etc.

The incumbent must have the ability to use discretion in dealing with highly confidential and sensitive information. They must be detail-oriented and have strong organizational and analytical skills.  They must have the proven ability to self-motivate, multi-task, and work both independently and collaboratively with different teams.  They must have outstanding communication skills, both written and verbally, and have strong interpersonal skills.

The successful candidate must possess intermediate level experience with Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel.  They must be certified as a Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) through the Canadian Payroll Association and a minimum of 3-5 years payroll experience.  Experience using ADP payroll system is also required.  Knowledge of Kronos and Workday systems is an asset.
