Job Posting: Library Services & Resources Assistant Department: Library and Learning Services Reports to: Director, Library & Learning Services Salary Range: $39,083 - $48,853 Hours of Work: 7 hours per day between 7:30am and 6:00pm Weekend and evening work on occasion
The Library Services & Resources Assistant is a member of the Library and Learning Services (LLS) team at Huron and contributes to the core functions and daily operations of both library service and resource provision within the Library. The role, reporting to the Director, Library and Learning Services, contributes to the core library resource operations and service functions through administrative and technical support.
In this role, the incumbent contributes to both the day-to-day and in-year (i.e., cyclical) operations of:
user services (customer service, circulation of library materials and loanable technologies, bookable study and learning spaces, course reserves, technology support, as well as associated policies and procedures)
materials access (course readings, digital document delivery, interlibrary loan, and Automated Fulfillment Network materials requests)
acquisitions (receiving, invoicing, processing of materials)
cataloguing and metadata (bibliographic data entry and records management)
This is a full time 18-month contract position, with the possibility of extension.
Library Technician diploma strongly preferred. Undergraduate degree in a Liberal Arts discipline considered an asset;
A minimum of two (2) years’ relevant experience in a technical services role, preferably in a post-secondary (i.e., academic library) or other educational setting;
Advanced knowledge of the Library of Congress (LC) classification system, and Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH);
Demonstrated ability to thrive in a team-based, highly collaborative public service environment;
Knowledge of the academic programs and disciplines taught within the Faculties of Arts and Social Science and Theology at Huron University College;
Proficiency with MS Office Suite products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and with online search and integrated library management system platforms (OMNI, Sierra, ALMA);
Excellent time management skills with the ability to organize, prioritize multiple tasks with competing deadlines
Exceptional oral and written communication skills and ability to interact professionally and positively with members of the University community (students, faculty, and staff) and LLS colleagues;
Demonstrated ability to problem solve, independently and as an active, engaged member of the LLS team;
A high level of initiative and organization to meet and respond to the needs of the position.
