Coldstream Concrete is looking to add a new member to our Production team as a Health and Safety Coordinator. This role is highly collaborative and is well suited for someone who is pursuing a career in a dynamic manufacturing environment and who is passionate about creating a positive culture around workplace safety.
The Health and Safety Coordinator is responsible for the effective delivery of the Company’s safety programs that support a productive workforce. This position develops and implements programs that ensure compliance with safety legislation and provides a point of contact for all day-to-day safety issues while reducing down time and risk to plant operations.
1. Oversee the Company’s safety programs and ensure that they are delivered according to each program’s policies and procedures. Safety programs include but are not limited to: Lockout/Tagout, Suspended Load/Crane, Forklift, PPE, Fit Testing, Designated Substances Control Programs, and Hazard Assessments. 2. Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness through measures such as audit, observation and tracking incident reports. 3. Regularly evaluate program policies and procedures for compliance with applicable legislation and standards in Ontario, including Employment Standards Act (ESA), Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB), Canadian Standards Association (CSA), Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC), and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). 4. Facilitate safety training to new and existing employees throughout the employment cycle, including orientation, job transfers, cross-training and refresher training. 5. Ensure that employees are equipped with appropriate and designated control measures, including PPE. 6. Collaborate with HR on change management initiatives that support core values of a safe workplace and continuous improvement. 7. Provide direct support to Supervisors by making safety recommendations. Assist Supervisors with the enforcement of health and safety policies through safety audits, coaching and on-the-job training. 8. Assist with the completion of incident reports and/or documentation for WSIB reports. 9. Create policies, procedures and other written communication materials which are used to support safety programs and promote a safe work culture. 10. Administration of new employee (onboarding) and safety checklists. 11. Facilitates and coordinates JHSC Meetings. Assist the JHSC in the execution of health and safety initiatives.
Minimum Post-Secondary Education in a related field 2+ years working in manufacturing environment Experience working as a Supervisor for health and safety considered an asset
Understanding of Ontario Safety regulations and legislation such as OHSA, CSA, ESA, AODA and OHRC
Working knowledge of WSIB is an asset.
Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, PPT, Excel)
Time management skills and the ability to prioritize competing tasks Excellent writing skills with the ability to create organized and cohesive written materials Team Player who works collaboratively in a diverse team Certified Joint Health & Safety as Management considered an asset Certification to train forklift, crane, and/or lockout is considered an asset First Aid certification considered an asset Experience facilitating training to groups considered an asset Knowledge of the construction industry and best practices is an asset Must have valid driver’s license in good standing
