Junior IT Support Technician

Full time permanent position Talbotville, Ontario (Rural Location)

OPPL is looking for a technically skilled candidate with good problem-solving abilities for the position of Junior IT Support Technician. The duties of an IT technician include being a reference point for all IT-related queries at the user level, responding to user needs in a timely manner and ensuring the optimal running of all systems, among other technical duties. This is a junior to intermediate role and the challenges you will be presented will be commensurate with your skill level. Ongoing technical training will be provided but you will be expected to begin with a background in IT hardware support (a mix of education and professional experience). You are expected to be in possession of notable people skills that will allow you to provide technical support.
 

Job Description/Responsibilities

  • Providing hands-on technical support in person, over the phone, through email and using remote
            support tools to staff across the organization
  • Support and installation (add/move/change) of desktop/laptop equipment
  • Support, installation and troubleshooting of printers
  • Configuring and supporting mobile devices (Android / iPhone)
  • Evaluate documented resolutions and suggest ways to prevent future problems
  • Escalate problems (when required) to the appropriate experienced technician
  • Ensure security and privacy of networks and computer systems
  • Identify and learn appropriate software and hardware used by OPPL
  • Opportunity to become involved in network administration and build projects (running cable, mount cabinets and A/V equipment, access points, cameras and NVRs)
  • Set up workstations with computers and necessary peripheral devices
  • Provide orientation and guidance to users on how to operate new software and computer equipment
  • Organize and schedule upgrades and maintenance without deterring others from completing their work
  • Perform troubleshooting to diagnose and resolve problems (repair or replace parts, debugging etc.)
  • Maintain records/logs of repairs and fixes and maintenance schedule
  • Identify computer or network equipment shortages and place orders
  • Escalate user issues to vendors, external service providers, as appropriate
  • Coordinate end to end client support from request through resolution
  • Provide support for projects when required
  • Interface with other support teams and vendors in a professional manner
  • Coordinate and support system changes, user builds (including new user setups), user off boarding, and
workstation relocations
  • Any other administrative duties as required
 

Experience, Skills and Behaviours

  • Minimum 2 to 4 years’ experience in a similar position
  • College diploma or certificate in IT or IT related program
  • Experience with Windows Operating Systems
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products
  • Experience with PC and Laptop hardware
  • Experience with Wireless Networks and Mobile Solutions
  • Ability to learn quickly and take on new responsibilities
  • Problem-solving, analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written), and interpersonal skills
  • Strong work ethic and be a positive team-player – trustworthy, capable, and reliable
  • Work independently, as well as collaboratively
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and deal with time constraints
  • Strong organization, documentation and problem-solving skills required
  • Expertise troubleshooting issues with computer software applications, hardware and network/internet connectivity
  • Experience with basic programming (SQL) and databases an asset
  • Experience with manufacturing ERP systems an asset
  • Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality
 

Schedule & Environment

  • Monday to Friday, 8-hour shift
  • On call / occasional evenings and weekends
  • Driver’s license and vehicle required
  • Ability to lift ~ 60 lbs. (e.g., computers, UPS batteries, deliveries)
  • Wage: $22.50 - $24/hour to start, commensurate with experience
