 As the ideal candidate you will possess:

  • Post-secondary education in Business or related discipline
  • CPA or working toward CPA is an asset
  • Currently enrolled in the CPA In-Depth Tax Program is an asset
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working in a tax role with a proven track record of high performance
  • Detailed knowledge of commodity and income tax legislation
  • Strong accounting skills to be able to analyze and interpret financial information and determine the corresponding tax implications
  • Excellent written (reports, memos, follow-ups, etc.) and verbal communication skills to be able to effectively convey complex concepts to diverse audiences
  • Time-management skills demonstrated through the ability to successfully undertake multiple priorities at one time
  • Superior attention to detail, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong leadership qualities and a sense of urgency
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively and to establish and maintain strong relationships

 Expectations and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and assist with the oversight of corporate income tax processes, including preparation of working papers, collection of required information, execution of tax payments and applicable journal entries.
  • Prepare working papers for tax returns and audits and ensure proper documentation is maintained on file.
  • Take ownership of the Canadian and foreign income and commodity tax filings and processes. Collaborate with external advisors and internal colleagues to resolve queries and ensure that returns are filed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Identify and implement strategies and tactics to improve processes within the tax department and within the organization. Maintain, monitor and improve procedures to ensure commodity taxes are accurately captured throughout the organization.
  • Provide tax guidance on the implications of acquisitions and participate in the due diligence efforts from a tax perspective.
  • Stay current with Canadian income and commodity tax developments. Ensure compliance with all applicable tax legislation.
  • Participate in and lead tax projects and initiatives.
  • Coach and communicate regularly with other teams to ensure compliance with tax policies. Act as an internal resource for commodity tax queries.
  • Assist with the coordination of payroll and tax compliance for cross-border teammates.
