The SDC in London, Ontario provides tax return preparation, financial statement preparation, notice to readers and other compliance services in support of our Canadian national practice. Using technology, standardized processes, and best practices, we deliver the highest quality services to our clients. The Opportunity: Senior Tax Accountant Specialist

Based out of London, the Senior Tax/Accountant Specialist is responsible for ensuring the quality of deliverables and monitoring compliance with all processes and procedures as it relates to review of tax return preparation, financial statement preparation, notice to readers and other compliance services.   You are responsible to coach and work with a team of specialists to submit a completed tax return, financial statement and/or other supporting documentation for personal and corporate clients to the engagement Partner. You will be responsible for the initial review of personal and corporate tax returns, and/or the notice to reader files, including the first draft of the financial statement.  This includes identification of errors and/or missing information, along with determining client follow-up if necessary.

The Senior Tax/Accountant Specialist is a key technical expert in the SDC and has substantial accounting experience and a strong understanding of private company businesses, ranging from high net worth individuals to owner-managed family businesses.

Due to the nature of the work, this will mean supporting a fast paced and dynamic work environment. As the SDC services all Canadian time zones, we are looking for individuals who are open and available for work between the hours of 8:00am EST and 8:00pm EST

(Specific shifts may vary, weekend work and Overtime will be necessary during peak seasons)

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Perform review of team members’ work and provide feedback to ensure the quality of deliverables and technical growth of Compliance Specialists.. Review may include:

  • Basic to complex Canadian personal and corporate income tax returns

  • Notice to reader financial statements

  • Identification of errors and/or missing information, determining client follow-up if necessary

  • Facilitate the correspondence with Canadian tax authorities

  • Provide effective coaching through day to day interactions and feedback to Compliance Specialists

  • Serve as backup for additional engagements and projects as required

Experience/Education:

  • 3-5 years of prior experience in a professional services firm or related accounting field/industry

  • Strong understanding of Accounting Standards for private companies; including Notice to Reader financial statements

  • Experience in owner/operator clients of different industries, holding companies, investment companies and entrepreneurs

  • Demonstrated ability utilizing tax and/or accounting software, Caseware experience would be an asset

  • Experience coaching and mentoring junior level staff would be considered an asset

  • Accounting, tax, or finance college diploma or an equivalent combination of education and/or work experience

  • Sound business sense and a creative mind that have earned you a reputation of providing service excellence.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to build relationships with clients and colleagues at all levels

  • Exceptional analytical capability; ability to apply the necessary judgment to ask questions, provide feedback, and assess issues as they arise

  • Detail oriented and well organized; proven ability to work effectively in a fast paced environment

  • Ability to follow and guide a team to follow established processes and procedures

  • Comfortable working with technology including MS Office, Adobe, Google Suite

  • Required to learn quickly when introduced to a new tool, database and internal process; become Subject Matter Expert for own service group.

  • Flexibility to meet coverage requirements; extended business hours and overtime will be required during peak periods
