Title Head Coach Reports To Board of Directors Staff Hours September 1, 2019 - March 31, 2020 During all scheduled program hours unless otherwise approved by the Board of Directors. Summary The role of the Head Coach is one that demands dedication, hard work, creativity, group control and an enthusiastic attitude towards children and sport. The Head Coach is required to oversee & train all staff, promote continuous learning with all athletes and staff, create program curriculum, oversee & lead in setting training/drill courses, and stay current on coaching updates from CSCF, AOA & ACA. The Head Coach works directly with the Board of Directors, coaches, athletes and parents within the program focusing on promoting fundamental/intermediate & advanced skills of athletes, and fostering a love of the sport. The Head Coach is expected to guide and challenge coaches to teach classes that are age appropriate, challenging, productive, fun and are capable of teaching athletes the safety requirements of the program and race courses ensuring that all participants use equipment properly and follow safety standards. In coordination with other managers and the Board of Directors, the Head Coach is expected to both open / close the building and be present for the duration of all programs being facilitated by LSC Racing at Boler Mountain. The Head Coach and additional management will coordinate all and any LSC Racing programs with the Management Team at Boler Mountain and will maintain a high level of communication and transparency when doing so. Core Competencies Knowledgeable Accountability Communication Teamwork Creativity Sportsmanship Leader Competitive Organization Overview of Responsibilities Administration / Planning Assist in the selection of coaching staff for hire and present to Board of Directors for approval Assign coaching staff to applicable teams based on registration numbers Facilitate all pre-season meetings and staff training Plan and facilitate all staff training sessions during the season promoting continual development Create and post schedule for hill time and courses for all teams and coaching staff. Create and post age and skill appropriate program curriculum with onsite equipment that encourages movement and strength of lower joints used in Alpine Skiing. Assist in coordinating end of the year Awards Banquet for U10-U21 athletes Leading / Coaching Mentor all newly certified Entry Level coaches. Set or mentor, guide and assist coaches in setting their training courses. Proof and provide guidance to all lesson plans. Work with staff members to form a positive, supportive team atmosphere. Maintain adherence to all organizational policies and procedures, including safety requirements. Report on the state of affairs and program status at Board Meetings to the Directors Races / Alpine Ontario Oversee and execute all AOA races specifically in relation to equipment management, course setting/hill requirements/maintenance & regulations, running Jury meetings, overseeing timing, and any on hill tasks. General understanding of CSCF and AOA organizational structure, member requirements and programs Requirements Seasons membership to Boler Mountain (see Management for further details) CSCF Level 2 Trained or Certified certification preferred Entry Level Mentor Certification Practical experience with course setting (both GS and SL) Strong overall knowledge of biomechanics relating to Alpine Skiing and ability to apply knowledge into program planning Minimum of 3 years past coaching experience as a lead coach of a Race Team (U10-U21 prefered) Preferred 2 years experience working with school aged children. Past management experience preferred Demonstrated competency in oral and written communication skills. Ability to effectively interact and relate to children in a developmentally appropriate manner. Ability to pass a criminal background check. Ability to travel & make arrangements as needed. Ability and willingness to perform required physical tasks. Ability to recognize individual learning styles and the characteristics of learners. Willing to participate in ongoing learning. Full compliance with Employee Handbook. Work Conditions Interacts with peers, coaches/employees, athletes, parents, management & Board of Directors. Regular to frequent requirement to perform physical activities including bending, standing, lifting, stooping, stretching, squatting, pushing and pulling, sitting, running, walking and supporting students. Outdoors in all weather conditions Staff may leave once all equipment is accounted for, all athletes picked-up, staff has left and building is locked (approximately 30 minutes after program end time). Lunch breaks to be taken at the discretion of the coach. Wear a helmet at all times while on-hill.
